CHECKLIST: LAYING LAMINATE – WHAT YOU SHOULD CONSIDER
A quick overview of the 8 most important steps for laying laminate:
- The room conditions and the laminate properties should match (stress, moisture, etc.) More about decors with moisture protection and extremely water-repellent decors
- Calculate the amount of laminate required and buy the desired laminate including matching skirting boards. More about transport and storage
- A suitable sub-floor must be level, dry, solid and clean. Irregularities should be compensated. More about sub-floors
- There should be sufficient clearance under the doors so that the doors can still be closed after the laminate has been laid (including underlays). Shorten doors, if necessary.
- Laying a suitable vapor barrier and impact sound insulation under the laminate. More about vapor barriers and more about impact sound insulation
- When laying the laminate, maintain sufficient distance from the wall and in large rooms, from the expansion joints. Detailed laying instructions and more about the wall clearance and the expansion joints
- Use transition and compensation profiles when different floors meet. More about the profiles
- Attach suitable skirting boards. Fix the boards only to the wall, not to the laminate.
